Budget accommodation in Koh Chang Thailand: A little slice of paradise at the Sea Flower Resort…

Ah, Koh Chang! Here you are surrounded by green and lush vegetation on steep mountains and will be greeted by monkey’s on the trees. Koh Chang is one of Thailand’s largest Islands with several beaches and resort districts along the coast. We stayed in the region called Hat Tha Nam which also known as “Lonely Beach” amongst the tourists. During the peak season this area is packed with backpackers who seek beach and party holidays but during the off peak season it is astonishingly quiet and very affordable to enjoy this little corner of paradise. And of cause you need a great place to stay whilst you are visiting Lonely Beach, so check out the Sea Flower Resort Bungalows with me…

Location Sea Flower Resort Koh Chang Lonely Beach

The Sea Flower Resort has its little bungalow’s spread out along the rocky beach part of Lonely Beach. Swimming is possible at this rocky beach, however the rocks are quite slippery and sharp so I would be cautious. The Sea Flower Resort itself is only a 2-5 minute walk away from the main street and it’s various choices of restaurants serving amazing and affordable dishes such as “Café del Sunshine”, bars, clubs and shops. If you walk a further 5 minute walk away from the main street you will reach the sandy beach of Lonely Beach.

The Sea Flower Resort placed their various bungalow type houses amoungst beautiful lush green palms and tropical plants and created little stone walkways that take you from bungalow to bungalow all the way to the stone beach. We even had a few instances where you can see the moneys up above the palms jumping from tree to tree 🙂

They offer a massage service which is located directly near the water and a little convenience store that stocks, water, sweets and treats as well as 2 minute noodles for a quick meal 🙂 Furthermore the also offer shuttle and scooter rental services.

Prices per night for a bungalow

This resort offers very affordable little bungalows with free WIFI!

We only paid around 250-350 Baht ( 10-15 AUD) per night for a bungalow with a fan and full service per day! However this bungalow was not located directly by the beach 🙂

The Bungalow’s with full air con and located by the water were around 700 – 1400 baht ( 30-50 AUD) per night.

Prices depend on season, of cause. Right now (September) you can find a bungalow with view and air con for 26 AUD per night. However in peak season (November to March) it’s double the price!

Compare prices now between booking.com/Sea Flower Resort and Agoda.com/Sea Flower Resort and get the best deals for this beautiful little gem!

The bungalows are quiet small, just enough space for a queen size bed, mirror, a clothing shelf and a good sized private bathroom with a shower. The fan is on the top of the wall and blows cool air on top of the bed. That’s it!

However you have a small terrace outside with two comfortable chairs, side table and a clothing rack. Plus you receive complimentary WIFI which always worked very well!

The best part of this beautiful little resort was the beach front! Here they have beautifully maintained lawns and sun chairs as well as tables with view directly to the water! We loved watching the sunset here or to sit with our take away fruit and just relax and enjoy the views!

Conclusion

We loved it here so much that we ended up staying for 6 weeks! Yes, lonely beach is very small and there is only one main road with restaurants and two side roads that lead to more restaurants and resorts, but the simplicity and serenity of this beautiful little beach area as well as the affordability made it the perfect little paradise for budget travelers!

But watch it! If you do not enjoy loud music or parties make sure you go there during off peak season. We stayed towards the end of the peak season and the bar music was fairly loud and was definitely within hearing reach of the bungalows. But by the end of the 6 weeks, the music died down and so did the party goers.

Ready to book your trip to Thailand?

Are you looking for affordable flights to Koh Chang in Thailand? Then here some tips on how to get the cheapest flights!

When I look for affordable flights to islands such as Koh Chang I usually first look at the map and check which bigger city/airport is closest to the island because flights to islands are less frequently used and those airports are usually more expensive. For Koh Chang the closest airport would be the airport from the city Trat. Then I use Google Flights to check the cheapest days to fly  and then compare flight prices for international flights with the booking portals Skyscanner.com, AirAsia.com and Expedia.com to find the best deal for my chosen airport. If I fly from Europe I also check out Eurowings.com!

When I arrive at a major airport in Thailand such as Bangkok, I then look for either internal airlines such as Bangkok Airways to book internal flights or I look up trains, buses or ferries that can take you to the island as trains and buses are usually much cheaper than flights 🙂

We traveled from Cambodia to Koh Chang by bus and then the ferry which was all included in the price, at total of 12 USD per person. For more tips on how to find cheap flights check out my page!

Happy Travels!
