The Maharani Harvestehude

The Maharaja St.Pauli was established by Kathrin Mourya Guthmann in 1997 and was the first Ayurveda Indian Restaurant in Hamburg sharing her passion for the Indian country and their heavenly diverse food! Later she opened the second restaurant, the Maharani in Harvestehude, which is the one I have visited a few times.

Entering the restaurant you are greeted with relaxing Indian music combined with Indian decoration which transfers you to another world in the middle of Germany!

There is even a choice of seating’s! From the standard “western style “ chairs to little comfy couches surrounding the tables and even some corners where you sit on a pillow on the floor!

Menu

This menu offers an entre with vegetarian and vegan options as well as THREE pages of vegetarian meals and quite a few of them can be cooked vegan upon request! Do I have to say more????

Food

Entre – Mixed Vegetarian Platter for 1 & Garlic Naan

The platter consisted of tasty and well spiced mixed vegetable pakoras (battered and fried diverse veggies), amazing vegetable samosa, vegetarian spring roll, paneer pakora (battered and fried Indian style cheese) and savory onion badji. On the side they serve a fruit chutney to dip your pakoras in. YUM!

We ordered a serving of Garlic Naan for the table as well because I just love garlic Naan!!!! It’s Indian soft flat bread topped with garlic and oil [maybe butter, not sure].

Main – Shahi Paneer served with Aromatic Basmati Rice

Homemade Indian style cheese made out of organic milk cooked in a tomato base curry sauce together with apple slices, cashew nuts and almonds. A high protein, creamy dish with a sweet and nutty taste. I loved it! Note: For summer it may be a little bit too creamy!

This dish is served with a side of yellow basmati rice topped with pomegranates.

Drinks

Their homemade Holunder-Lemon Lemonade is super refreshing and not too sweet- it’s just right! They also offer a Cherry-Lime Lemonade as wells as a wide variety of Lassies (Indian sweet yoghurt drink) and juices.

Conclusion

I have visited the Maharani with family and friends a few times and I must say that the comfortable ambience mixed with the very attentive and friendly team create a super relaxing and colorful atmosphere. I love the most that you can share a lot of dishes as they are served in little Indian style pots so that everyone can eat what their heart desires and you can try many dishes at once- if all your friends are vegetarians that is 🙂

Thumps up from me & definitely worth a visit!
