What to do about Stress?
We need to activate our Anti-Stress Center. Yes, our body has developed a system to reduce stress which is called the parasympathetic nervous system. And it is really easy to activate this system. You just gotta breath!!! It slows down your heart rate and decreases cortisol production!
4 Ways to Activate our Anti-Stress System
1.Mini meditations during the day:
Take deep breaths to slow down your heart rate. Concentrate on your breathing when you inhale. Hold your breath for a few seconds and then exhale. Repeat this 5-6 times.
2. Take Yoga classes:
This exercise does not only help your stretch your muscles which also aids in reducing muscle tearing it also calms you down and helps your breathing!
It is a well known stress releaser. It can be a nice long brisk walk or high intensity exercise. As long as you enjoy doing it. Cause if you are stressed just thinking about it- its counter productive!!!
4. Switch off all your devices for an hour
I mean ALL OF THEM! Including TV and just listen to some relaxing music such as classic or Jazz. It really slows down your heart rate.
As we tend to grab the wrong foods as well when we are stressed and then end up eating too much, here some tips on how to avoid it.
6 Ways to Stop Stress Related Overeating
- Go for a walk before or after work and in your free time
- Drink some water – sometimes we are just thirsty
- Take the dog for a walk
- Take a power nap if you can
- Make a cup of herbal tea or drink a green juice or smoothie- it also detoxes your body
- Eat a healthy snack such as raw nuts or fresh fruit as they give you an energy boost and keep you fuller for longer!
We are all stressed in live, especially nowadays with the additional technology at work and home- I just say EMAIL!!! However, we tend to forget how stress actually affects our body in many ways and makes us sick. So try to keep this in mind when you go through your day and watch your breathing, listen to some relaxing music or just switch OFF your devices for an hour!
