I wish you all a wonderful a happy New Year and an amazing start into 2017!!! I hope you had a fantastic NYE celebration no matter where in the world you are!
We celebrated NYE at the Mekong/Tonal Sap River in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. At first we were not even sure if they even celebrated NYE-but they did!! Though very different from what I am used to…
It was more like a huge public gathering with all the locals. The restaurants were all pretty empty except for the westerners. The Cambodians sat with family and friends on large blankets on the floors with lots of food and drinks along the river or by the Royal Palace…
…lots of hawker foods on wheels were walking up and down the river to sell their foods…
And some even arranged for lanterns to be flown into the air….
At midnight it was rather quiet- we even almost missed “Midnight” if it were not for the fireworks that went up into the air because no one did a count down or was bubbling excited…Nope, they just sat there and chatted away and stopped only with a few cheers when the fireworks went up…
And of cause after the fireworks there was a huge grid lock on the streets with lots and lots of motorbikes and Tuk Tuks…
and you had a hard time crossing the streets to get to the Royal Palace…
It was a very different and most certainly much more quiet NYE which we really appreciated. So if you like huge parties on NYE with lots and lots of people Phnom Penh is probably not the best place to celebrate. The Fireworks were also quite basic after experiencing fireworks in Sydney or in Hamburg… But still enough to mark the new start into the next year 🙂
Anyway, I hope you guys wrote a little list of new years resolutions. I know, some of you think its crap but I think its important simply because:
- They help you decide WHAT you want to accomplish within a year
- They make you thik about HOW to accomplish them
- They give you a general guideline of how far into your resolutions you are in mid year
This is how I got in 2016 my blog started, how I enrolled into my online studies mid year and how I finally got to see Bali, Vietnam and Cambodia 🙂
Here a short version of what I set for 2017:
So, if you don’t have a list yet, then turn OFF the TV, your phone and any other device and get going!!!
The hardest part of reaching your dreams is setting the goal. Once the goal is set you only need to walk the path towards it.
With that I wish you an amazing start into an incredible 2017 !!!
