8 Tips to stay Fit & Healthy whilst travelling on a budget

It is not easy to stay fit and healthy whilst travelling on a budget at the same time. Healthy foods are usually more expensive and you also tend to eat out much more whilst you travel- especially when you love trying out new sweet treats! So to keep your weight or even lose some weight here are some tips on how to do so on a budget!

1.Find a Hotel room with a Fridge or Minibar

That way you can go to the local markets and buy fresh fruit and veggies and store them in the fridge. It saves you money and you have healthy snacks in the hotel if you get hungry before lunch or dinner.

 

2. Travel with a little kettle

We purchased collapsible kettle that saves space in your backpack. This way you can whip up some hot oats for breakfast or 2 minute noodles with veggies and tofu in your hotel room3c7fcda7-09f7-4e27-b749-93bad1b36855875-hotel-nudlesn

 

3. Take Chia Seeds and goji berries with you

Packed with proteins, iron and omega 3 they add a heathy benefit to your diet!

4. Buy unsalted almonds or cashews

Nuts & Seeds provide you with vital proteins and healthy fats. They are a great snack to keep yourself fueled with the right foods and stop you from overeating on sweets as your body gets the right nutrition and does not tell your brain it wants more food! If you can buy walnuts for Omega 3 as well.

***Do not eat too many peanuts. They are yummy and cheaper but they contain unfortunately inflammatory omega 6 fatty acids which can be toxic when eaten in high amounts! 

 

5. Buy whole meal toast and avocado at the local market

Avocado are rich in anti-inflammatory Omega 6 fatty acids which helps to reduce inflammation in your body! Also Filled with vitamins and minerals avocados and whole grain bread will give you a nice boost of nutrients! You can whip up a quick and healthy lunch or dinner! By the way, Bali had really huge Avocadoes!

6. Buy (organic-if possible) 100% nut butters

Nut butters fill you up and provide you with proteins and healthy fat.  You can spread cashew nut or peanut butters (latter do not overeat on) on apple slices or toast as a healthy Snack! YUM 🙂

 

 

7. Exercise in the Hotel Room

I use YouTube videos such as Billy Blanks Tae Bo or Jillian Michaels 30 days of shred. For weights I use water bottles- you can even change the weight by buying small or large bottles  🙂 Or go for a jog at the beach in the late afternoons (you can also go early in the morning – if you can wake up to avoid the heat of the day sun 🙂

8. Drink more Water & stay Hydrated!

As you will sweat much more in tropical countries and when you exercise you need to ensure that you drink 3-4 liters of water per day.We need 1.5 liters alone just for our cells in the body to function proper! More about the health benefits of water Here!
